Religious Preferences - Question 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Religious Preferences - Question 1

TMoore wrote:Trump is very hypocritical towards his religion. He says that no one should question a man's faith when he is talking to the Pope, yet he questions his competitor, he says "How can Ted Cruz be an evangelical Christian when he lies so much and is so dishonest?"(According to ChristianToday.com) The Misfit proves he knows information in the bible, by saying "Jesus was the only One that ever raised the dead."(Norton,480, para.135) Although he uses that information to prove that there is no pleasure in the world, but that doesn't justify a means to murder. Both men manipulate their knowledge of the bible to their advantage.

There are grammatical errors within your post. When quoting, your source should be within the quotation marks and your punctauation for your sentence goes right after the source, before the end quotation. For example: "Jesus was the only One that ever raised the dead (Norton,480, para.135)." Removing "Although" from the second to last sentence makes more sense. Also "The Bible" should be capitalized as it is the title of a book. - Grammar Police

Religious Preferences - Question 1 - Page 2 Empty Re: Religious Preferences - Question 1

Donald Trump is hypocritical, as The Misfit only used religion to play off the grandmother. According to CNN.com, Donald Trump has said that he is a Presbyterian, he does ineed go to church and he loves God. In that interview he made it aware to the public of what his religion was and since he does go to church he is familiar with the bible and what it says. His actions nor statements don't follow through with the commandments that God provided for Christians to follow. In "A Good Man is Hard to Find" The Misfit states that Jesus was the only one to ever raise from the dead. With that comment, he shows that he's familiar with the story of Jesus, as well as he compares himself to Jesus. Now with that being said, just because someone knows a story or two out of the bible doesn't mean they KNOW the bible. The Misfit only used the bible to show the grandmother that she wasn't going to manipulate him into not killing her.

B.Micken wrote:The misfit directly uses religion to influence both himself and others and to justify his actions. However, Trump does this indirectly. An example is how some of Trumps voters only vote for him because of his Christian background.

Refer to a quote in the book, to exclaim how the misfit uses religion too justify his actions.

Yes, both are hypocritical towards their use of religion. Trump and The Misfit know that much of society is familiar with the bible and they choose to use the bible against their "victims". Trump claims to be a Christian but condones and accepts violence at his rallies. According to an article from Time magazine, Trump told his supporters, “If you see somebody with a tomato, knock the crap out of them.” The Misfit used his knowledge of the bible to rebut against the grandmother and her reasons for why she should not be killed. Since he was not there to witness the raising of the dead and he is not certain if he believes in God, The Misfit believes that violence is the answer to everything. "Jesus was the only One that ever raised the dead and He shouldn't have done it. He thown everything off balance. If He did what He said, then it's nothing for you to do but throw away everything and follow Him, and if He didn't, then it's nothing for you to do but enjoy the few minutes you got left the best way you can by killing somebody or burning down his house or doing some other meanness to him. No pleasure but meanness" (Norton, p.480, para.134). The Misfit was remorseless towards his actions and sounds as if he wants to believe in Jesus but can not bring himself to do so.

Both the Misfit and Donald Trump are hypocritical towards their use of religion. Trump and The Misfit know about the bible and its saying. Trump causes violence although he claims to be christian, at his rallies as well as speeches he encourages segregation. As well as the misfit using the bible story and text against the grandmother (Norton, page 480, para. 134).

The Misfit has his beliefs, he once said he was in the church choir but now he blames God throwing the World off balance by raising the dead(pg.480). The Misfit is a hypocrite because he can say one thing about God then say something completely different. He used to worship something he does not believe in. In Most of Donald Trumps speeches(that refer to God) he talks good of God. I could find nothing about him hating God. So in this characteristic i do not think Donald and the Misfit are alike.
